Course Description:

Refereeing: Learning Outcomes - Referees will have developed the following skills and knowledge and be fully conversant with all officiating terminology
Unit 1 - Basketball England & Officiating Introduction a] Mechanics, Positioning & signalling; b] Fouls c] Violations
Unit 2 - Violations & Fouls • Court Markings, Boundary Lines & Out of Bounds • Jump Ball, Held Ball & Alternating Possession • Illegal Dribble & Travelling • Timings 3, 5, 8, 14 & 24 Seconds • Ball Returning to Back Court • Goaltending & Basket Interference • Fouls/Contact, Cylinder Principle, Legal Guarding Position, Verticality, Guarding a Player who is Airborne • Screening, Charging, Blocking, No Charge Semi- Circle Area • Contacting an Opponent with the Hand(s)and/or Arm(s) • Post play, Illegal Guarding from the Rear, Holding • FOULS:- Personal Foul, Double Foul, Technical foul, Unsportsmanlike, Disqualifying, Fighting

Registration is via Basketball England. Payment can be made in full or prior to each day of the course. Candidates will have Refereeing opportunities throughout the course.
